News Now in Norfolk, VA is seeking a dynamic, charismatic, experienced Sports Anchor/Reporter who tells impactful, human‑centered sports stories rooted in the culture and history of Hampton Roads. The ideal candidate is a multi‑platform performer, strong writer, confident live presence, journalist who sees sports coverage as community, identity, culture, and impact.
- Anchor and report sports content across all 13
News Now platforms, including linear newscasts, streaming shows, 13
News Now+, mobile, digital, and social media. - Lead sports coverage, including daily updates, game‑day coverage, analysis, and enterprise reporting.
- Pitch, write, and produce creative, character‑driven sports stories reflecting Hampton Roads’ unique culture and sports history.
- Deliver authentic, energetic, and informative live shots from stadiums, training facilities, community events, and breaking sports news scenes.
- Engage audiences across social platforms with mobile‑first content, including shorts, quick updates, behind‑the‑scenes insights, and real‑time fan interaction.
- Collaborate with producers, reporters, and digital teams to plan coverage, specials, and long‑form storytelling.
- Shoot and edit video in the field when needed.
- Represent 13
News Now at sports events, station initiatives, and community engagements. - Perform additional special projects and duties including news coverage when required.
- 1–3 years of on‑air sports reporting or anchoring experience in a smaller television market.
- Proven experience covering a major NFL franchise and college, and high school sports teams.
- Strong writing, reporting, and live performance skills.
- Demonstrated success engaging audiences on social, streaming, and digital platforms.
- Ability to shoot and edit video; proficiency with newsroom and digital content systems.
- BA/BS in Journalism, Communications, Broadcast, or related field preferred.
