Join a dynamic pediatric critical care team helping to grow a dedicated pediatric cardiac ICU within a 32‑bed PICU. The Children's Specialty Group at Children's Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) seeks a full‑time BC/BE Pediatric Critical Care Physician passionate about collaboration and innovation. In this role, you will care for general PICU and cardiac patients at Virginia’s only freestanding, independent children’s hospital in Norfolk, Virginia and work with a physician‑owned multi‑specialty group.

CHKD’s cardiac surgery program is part of a regional collaborative between CHKD and the University of Virginia (UVA), referred to as the Virginia Congenital Cardiac Collaborative. The CHKD program is supported by surgeons with over 10 years of experience, including Dr Umar Boston (Chief of Cardiac Surgery, CHKD) and Dr Phillip Smith (Surgical Director of the Fetal Care Center). Currently, 100 index cardiac surgery cases were performed each year.

• Practice at a 206‑bed teaching, freestanding children’s hospital within an integrated pediatric system
• Join a physician‑owned group with 230+ physicians and 130+ advanced practice providers (APPs)
• Partnership eligibility after 3 years with the group
• Help shape and grow a dedicated pediatric cardiac ICU (PCICU) within the PICU
• Bring strong collaboration and communication skills to a multidisciplinary PICU team

• Practice in a 32‑bed PICU at Virginia’s only freestanding independent children’s hospital
• Care for 1,200 annual PICU admissions with mixed general and cardiac patients
• Work alongside 8 PICU physicians and 4 advanced practice providers (APPs)
• Grow with a cardiac intensivist team expanding to 4 physicians, including a medical director
• Engage in teaching and mentoring within Virginia’s largest pediatric residency training program
• Tailor academic involvement to your interests with no research requirement
• Share a 1:9 call schedule while covering both PICU and cardiac patients
