Overview
The Ellmer College of Health Sciences (ECHS) at Old Dominion University (ODU) is seeking an accomplished scholar for a tenured Endowed position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. This open position requires an active and sustained externally funded research program that aligns with one or more of the five ECHS schools: (1) School of Dental Hygiene, (2) School of Exercise Science, (3) School of Medical Diagnostic & Translational Sciences, (4) School of Rehabilitation Sciences, and (5) School of Speech-Language Pathology.
ECHS faculty are supported by external grants from NIH, DoD, DoE, private industry, foundations, and professional organizations. This endowed professorship offers a reduced teaching load, a competitive salary, and an annual research budget to lead high-impact health sciences research. The initial appointment is five years and renewable based on annual performance.
The five Schools within ECHS are located in four buildings on ODU's main campus, including a new 120,000 square foot ECHS building with state-of-the-art research labs, teaching spaces, and two public-facing clinics. A full list of available research labs and clinics can be found on the ECHS site. The appointee will have a research program that complements and extends ECHS scholarship and aligns with current facilities.
ECHS research pillars include: (1) Healthy Aging across the Lifespan, (2) Innovative Practices, and (3) Clinical Education. The HEROES Initiative focusing on Active-Duty, Veteran, and First Responder health is also a focus area for applicants.
On July 1, 2024, ODU and EVMS integrated to create the Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences (VHS) at Old Dominion University, the largest academic health sciences center in Virginia. VHS comprises five units including ECHS and related schools. This structure enables collaborative opportunities for basic and translational sciences across VHS Institutes, Centers, and Departments. Additional information is available via the VHS and ECHS materials as referenced in the posting.
ResponsibilitiesThe appointee will have a nationally and/or internationally recognized research program with a strong track record of external grant funding to elevate the research profile of ECHS. Teaching responsibilities will be limited and may occur in any area of expertise across ECHS programs.
