Assistant or Associate Professor

The Department of Biomedical & Translational Sciences at Brock VHS Eastern Virginia Medical School at Old Dominion University seeks qualified applicants for a full-time salaried faculty position as a medical educator at the ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATEPROFESSOR level. Based in Norfolk’s historic Ghent neighborhood on an impressive and growing campus with access to a state-of-the-art simulation center, world class hospitals and newly renovated educational facilities, this community based medical school provides ample opportunities for growth for a professional interested in developing their career as a medical educator.

The successful candidate will join a collegial department that teaches foundational sciences to our medical and graduate students. There are many opportunities for basic science collaborations, clinical and translational research as well as for educational research.

Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent terminal degree, and experience teaching medical/graduate level classes in physiology/pathophysiology. The successful candidate will be a motivated and enthusiastic educator with a desire to join an interdisciplinary team of foundational science and clinician colleagues working todeliver an integrated curriculum utilizing learner-centered modalities. Duties will include classroom, large group and small group instruction, course administration, coordination of the physiology discipline horizontally and vertically, service on school committees and active scholarship in education or community-oriented research.

Develop, teach, and coordinate thesequencingand assessmentof physiology/pathophysiology content with appropriate clinical context at thedesignatedlevel of learner withinvarious educationalprograms while adhering to all programmatic and institutional policies and procedures.

Provide information and data to evaluatehorizontal and vertical integration of the physiology/pathophysiology disciplinein the MD curriculum and identify areas for improvement of integration (if applicable).

Provide administrative and/or leadership support to courses/programs as assigned for the educational mission of VHS.

Participate in institutional and programmatic committees and subcommittees as assigned/needed for the educational mission.

Required:

• PhD or equivalent terminal degree

• Expertise in physiology and/or pathophysiology

Preferred:

• Skill in evaluation and feedback for medical students

• Knowledge of institution’s medical programobjectives:
  Medical Education Program Objectives (MEPOs)

• Knowledge of institution’s pre-clinical and clinical curriculum

• Good communication skills and interpersonal relationships
