Position: Early Literacy Tutor or Teacher 2025-2026 School Year

Part-Time and Temporary Positions

Early Literacy Teacher with Active VA Teaching License: $30/Hour

Early Literacy Teacher without Active VA Teaching License: $25/Hour

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess and maintain the certification requirements as established by the Virginia Department of Education (Title IX Training, Mandated Reporting Training, and Suicide Prevention Training)
  • Must possess a high school diploma

Nature of Position:

The Early Literacy Tutor will provide supplemental daily instruction to K-3 students in small groups who are identified as needing additional support in early literacy.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

  • Provides literacy instruction and support to K-2 students in collaboration with classroom teachers and reading specialists
  • Teaches foundational reading skills to small groups of students
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials that meet the needs of the assigned group utilizing district-provided resources
  • Participates in monthly professional development and training focusing on early literacy instruction and best practices
  • Collaborates with the reading specialist in planning for the instructional needs of the students
  • Monitors and documents academic progress of the assigned students
  • Maintains appropriate records
  • Communicates with classroom teachers and reading specialists to discuss student progress and provide feedback
  • Follows an instructional schedule developed by school personnel, working 5 hours a day
  • Work involves exposure to normal everyday hazards encountered in a school environment
  • Work is performed in a classroom and involves no unusual demands
