Position: 2026-2027 Middle and Upper School Learning Specialist

Norfolk Collegiate is seeking a Middle and Upper School Learning Specialist to support students with diverse learning needs in grades 6 to 12. Reporting to the Director of Learning Services, the Learning Specialist supports the middle and upper school Learning Resource Center, working closely with students, faculty, and families to provide specialized educational support to individuals or groups of students with learning differences.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with students both individually and in small groups to provide targeted support to address specific needs in literacy skills, math, executive function, or study skills, based on recommendations from psycho‑educational evaluations
  • Empower students to cultivate self‑advocacy and effective learning strategies
  • Track student progress in skill development, and communicate with families regarding students' progress; attend conferences with families as needed or requested
  • Partner with faculty to differentiate instruction and provide in‑class support
  • Consult on the creation of individualized learning plans for each student and coordinate that plan with the classroom curriculum, in consultation with the director of learning services and learning resource coordinator
  • Assist in the monitoring and implementation of testing accommodations
  • Attend faculty meetings and professional development sessions
  • Keep up to date with new developments in serving students with learning differences
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education, special education, psychology, or a related field
  • Experience working with students with learning differences, preferably within an independent school setting
  • Training in executive function coaching or specific literacy interventions (Orton‑Gillingham) is highly desirable
