Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced NDT Level II / Quality Assurance Inspector to support our Fleet Services Group in Norfolk, VA. The successful candidate will perform quality assurance inspections on hull, mechanical & electrical (HM&E) systems, and electronic systems on U.S. Navy ships.

Essential duties & responsibilities
  • Perform Non‑Destructive Testing in accordance with applicable specifications, standards, and company policies on shipboard structural and piping systems.
  • Conduct Quality Assurance inspections for mechanical, structural, piping, and electrical repairs and installations aboard ships.
  • Review QAWB before and after work for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with technical specifications.
  • Perform other quality‑related tasks assigned by the Quality Assurance Manager.
  • Carry out in‑process shipboard surveillances.
  • Ensure proper completion and retention of OQE.
  • Assist Program Managers, Project Managers, and Supervisors with NAVSEA Standard Item and other customer‑related requirements to ensure accurate and safe work.
  • Monitor compliance with company Quality and Safety Management Systems, workmanship standards, and customer requirements.
  • Assist with development of Test & Inspection Plans, Process Control Procedures, and Condition Reports as required.
  • Maintain the Measuring and Monitoring Equipment (MME) Database, including inspection logs and check‑in/check‑out of equipment.
  • Perform duties outside your specialty to assist production (e.g., Fire Watch, Tank Watch, general cleaning).
Requirements
  • High school, trade, or industrial school diploma or degree.
  • Target 5–8 years of experience performing NDT inspections (VT, PT, MT) within the AIT industry.
  • Target 3–5 years of experience performing Quality Assurance/Control inspections on U.S. Navy ships.
  • Certified NDT Level II Inspector (VT, PT, MT required).
  • Detailed knowledge of shipboard/shipyard procedures, processes, methods, and techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret ship installation drawings, government specifications, and NAVSEA Standard Items.
  • Paint experience with a NBPI or NACE certification is a plus.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance and base access and security credentials.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and transport heavy equipment (minimum 30 lbs).
  • Ability to work on and climb ladders, in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions, and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to wear a respirator may be required.
  • Travel may be required within and outside the continental United States.
  • Due to export control regulations, this role is open to U.S. citizens only.

  • Ability to work independently and execute multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project and Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Physical Requirements
  • Exposure to open‑air environments (noisy, hot, and cold conditions).
  • Required to visit project sites aboard ships and rigs, both onshore and offshore.
  • Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Site visits may involve standing, bending, crouching, climbing, and operating machinery.
  • Exposure to sound levels exceeding 100 decibels.
  • Requires sufficient visual acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and night vision.
  • May work in confined spaces with limited ventilation.
  • Requires prolonged periods of sedentary work.
  • Must be able to ride ships at sea for extended periods, withstanding ship motion.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs or more as tasks require.
