Job Description

This position is responsible for performing the assignment, accounting, and tracking of past‑due University accounts in accordance with the Commonwealth of Virginia and University policy and procedures.

This position finalizes accounts with the Department of Taxation.

This position performs the assignment of Perkins loans.

This position provides a central point of communication for collection agencies and internal staff.

Responsibilities
  • Assign and track past‑due University accounts.
  • Finalize accounts with the Department of Taxation.
  • Assign Perkins loans.
  • Serve as central communication point for collection agencies and internal staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, FERPA, and Account Receivable applications.
  • Familiarity with state and federal regulations concerning delinquent accounts and collection laws.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Effective collection techniques and applying them to account collection.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to compose effective collection correspondence.
  • Experience with automated financial systems.
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical computations.

Experience

Some closely related working experience in the collection of delinquent accounts or in student accounts receivable.

Additional Considerations
  • Some Banner experience.
  • Financial Aid, Student Services, Student Account, or related background preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Conditions of Employment

This position is considered essential personnel and may require working during university closings.
