ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- The Equipment Specialist is responsible for ensuring that equipment used by the department for diagnostic, therapeutic, and monitoring care is safe, reliable, and functioning properly to maintain high-quality delivery of operative procedures.
- Provides clinical surgical support by managing and operating all relevant surgical equipment.
- Ensures functionality, cleanliness, and readiness of all department equipment and supplies.
- Analyzes and resolves routine and complex equipment issues using independent judgment and technical expertise.
- Anticipates and prepares necessary devices and instruments for surgical procedures based on surgeon and staff needs.
- Performs inspections, installations, and maintenance of perioperative medical equipment in accordance with manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFU).
- Assists with evaluations, trials, and implementation of new surgical equipment and technologies.
- Educates and supports physicians and Operating Room (OR) personnel on the use and features of both new and existing surgical products.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams including surgeons, OR staff, Sterile Processing, Biomedical Engineering, and other support departments.
- Maintains accurate documentation of service activities, equipment usage, and maintenance logs.
- Provides assistance to department leadership on equipment needs, repairs, and related costs through collaboration with Biomedical technicians and industry vendors.

Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of procurement or related work experience in a surgical setting or healthcare facility.
- Previous experience in maintaining, cleaning, and storing equipment in a fast‑paced environment.
Education and Experience
- Associate’s Degree preferred.
- Biomedical background preferred.
- Two years of technical/electronics training.
- Prior experience with military technical/electronics experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage time effectively and document work appropriately.
- Good attention to detail and ability to disassemble/reassemble equipment for repairs and maintenance.
- Accurate interpretation and follow‑through of manufacturer service documentation and required service tasks.
- Good analytical skills and ability to utilize test instrumentation for troubleshooting and fault isolation.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Professional knowledge of areas of responsibility to assist in the planning and implementation of department procurement services.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as excessive noise, dust, or extreme temperatures. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities.
