OverviewSentara is hiring a Patient Care Technician to work at Sentara Leigh Hospital on the Med Surg/Hematology Unit.
Hours/ShiftFull‑time (night shift), approximately 6 pm to 6 am.
Work shift:
Third (Nights).
Norfolk, VA.
Department OverviewThis 24‑bed unit offers a wide variety of medical diagnoses including CHF, COPD, Sepsis, Pneumonia, Diabetes, and Stroke. Our specialty is caring for those with chronic blood disorders such as Sickle Cell. Teamwork is what we do best; no one is left behind. We are Sentara Fami‑Leigh!
ResponsibilitiesPatient Care Technicians are unlicensed staff members working under the direct supervision of a professional nurse. They implement delegated aspects of nursing care, provide patient care, support admissions and discharge processes, and comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional nurse. They observe patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report any change to the nurse.
Education & QualificationsEducation: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Certification/Licensure:
- American Health Associate BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire.
- Minimum requirements:
One of the following - Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
- Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
- National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
- Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School
- Emergency services (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, paramedic)
- Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT, or PT
- Current work experience within the last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant
Experience: One year of prior health‑care experience preferred.

Located in Norfolk, VA, Sentara Leigh is a 274‑bed acute care facility with dedicated orthopedic care, stroke center, and various specialties. The hospital opened in 1903 and relocated to its current site in 1977, with a renovation in 2016 adding two new patient towers and an atrium.
