• Develop, implement, and evaluate therapeutic recreation services to restore, maintain, or improve cognitive, physical, emotional, spiritual, and social function of patients and their families.
• Select appropriate assessments and use systematic assessment procedures to address patient needs.
• Develop assessment‑based clinically‑appropriate treatment plans with measurable goals and outcomes.
• Implement recreation interventions and techniques to achieve established outcomes.
• Evaluate and document patient progress and intervention effectiveness.
• Develop recreation therapy discharge plans in collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and interdisciplinary team when necessary.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team in planning and implementing recreational activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Follow organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Plan, assess, implement, and evaluate therapeutic recreation interventions.
• Document individualized therapeutic recreation treatment plans, behavioral observations, and interventions in the patient record.
• Maintain confidentiality and integrity of data and information.
• Provide comprehensive therapeutic recreation services for patients and family members.
• Provide therapeutic techniques to reduce anxiety, improve pain management, and increase relaxation.
• Represent and communicate therapeutic recreation practice and theory pertaining to children, youth, and adolescents.
• Create a safe, nurturing environment for patients and families.
• Provide collaborative services with the interdisciplinary team.

• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or obtain CTRS within one year of hire.
• Additional certification or advanced degree in child life (CCLS), yoga, dance, music, or art preferred.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field, as required for eligibility for certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification.
• Minimum of one year experience working in a healthcare setting.
• Mental health experience preferred.
• Security clearance may be required (FBI fingerprinting, criminal background check, Child Protective Services registry search).

• Normal patient care environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, etc.
• Frequent exposure to communicable disease and moderately adverse working conditions due to performance of certain patient care activities.
