Fusion Medical Staffing is seeking a skilled Pediatric ER RN for a 13 week travel assignment in Norfolk, VA. Required Qualifications:
  • One year of recent experience as a Pediatric ER RN
  • Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
  • Current BLS (AHA/ARC) Certification
  • PALS (AHA/ARC) or ENPC Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
  • NRP Certification
  • Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position
Summary:

The Pediatric ER RN provides comprehensive emergency care to pediatric patients in a fast-paced clinical setting. This role involves assessing pediatric patient health, administering emergency treatments, and collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care for children and adolescents. The Pediatric ER RN demonstrates advanced clinical skills, effective communication with children and families, and adherence to the highest standards of patient safety, ethics, and professional excellence in emergency situations.

Work Functions:
  • Explains emergency procedures and treatments to pediatric patients and their families in an age-appropriate manner to foster understanding and alleviate fear
  • Administers prescribed and emergent medications and treatments in accordance with approved pediatric nursing techniques and emergency protocols
  • Prepare and operate pediatric-specific emergency equipment, assisting physicians during treatments, procedures, and examinations
  • Ensure the comfort and safety of pediatric patients in the emergency setting, employing age-appropriate techniques and minimizing distress
  • Perform pediatric vital sign assessments, using tools such as Broselow tape for weight-based measurements, and respond promptly to deviations from normal
  • Respond promptly to pediatric emergencies, such as respiratory distress, trauma, or cardiac arrest
  • Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the medical records
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, and social workers, to provide comprehensive care
  • Collaborate with families to develop and implement care plans that address the unique needs of pediatric patients
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing pediatric patient care and outcomes
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
  • Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
Required Essential Skills:
  • Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills
  • The ability to read, write, & communicate in the English language is required
  • Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
  • Physical Abilities - Remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bending
  • Interpersonal Skills - To work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism
  • Technical/Motor Skills - Ability to grasp, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment.
  • Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public, customers, and meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally as well as working without assistance from other personnel.
