Harbor’s Edge is a premier 5-star, resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located alongside the beautiful harbor in Norfolk, Virginia. Our community consists of 300 Independent Living Residential Units, a 33-bed (Medicare/private) Skilled Nursing Healthcare Unit, a 40-bed Assisted Living Unit, and 34-bed Memory Support Unit.

We are seeking a highly qualified, part‑ and full‑time Certified Nursing Assistants to join our team to deliver excellent care for our residents. The ideal candidates will have senior living experience (e.g., long‑term care, assisted living, memory support) with a passion for working with an elderly population.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Follow individualized plan of care for each assigned resident. Observe residents for change in condition and report any changes immediately to nurse assigned to resident, or RN leadership. Document daily care by the end of each shift
  • Check and record vital signs and weights, as assigned. Assist with bowel and bladder needs. Measure and record intake and output for residents on I & O
  • Provide for or assist patients with activities of daily living as needed, including bathing/showering according to schedule, oral care, toileting, dressing, feeding etc...
  • Perform restorative nursing techniques including proper positioning, ADL training, and Passive Range of Motion. Turn and position high risk, immobile residents in accordance with positioning schedules and provide preventive skin care as per facility policy.
  • Assist in providing reality orientation, redirection, and validation techniques to residents in need
  • Encourage residents to participate in recreational activities; assist residents in getting to activities
  • Assist residents with transfers and ambulation as directed and ordered by the physician or interdisciplinary team, using proper body mechanics; use of facility gait belts, back supports, and mechanical devices is required. Assist other staff with heavy lifting, transferring, and use of proper equipment according to policy and physician’s orders.
  • Provide transportation for residents within facility and, at times, accompany to appointments outside facility.
  • Help admit and discharge residents according to facility procedure. Respond to urgent calls as needed.
  • Assist in post‑mortem care as instructed by the nurse.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Attend in‑service classes and staff meetings
Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED.
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant Certification in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • At least one (1) year of relevant work experience.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Trained with a valid certificate/card required.
  • Current COVID Vaccine is required to support the health and safety of our residents and staff.
  • Experience and knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and medical supplies and equipment.
  • Demonstrate engaging and positive demeanor with genuine desire to work successfully with the elderly and/or disabled.
  • Must be able to successfully follow verbal written and verbal instructions accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to communicate tactfully and effectively with all personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the general public.
  • Previous long‑term care experience preferred.
  • Be able to exert a minimum of 50 lbs. of energy in order to assist elderly in and out of wheelchairs, beds, etc., as well as be able to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, reach, turn, bend, stoop, crouch and kneel, balance, and maintain body equilibrium to prevent falls, reach over the head, push/pull, and grasp with both hands.
