SUMMARYGeneral Description
:
The Human Resources Intern will support the HR team with a variety of administrative and employee-related activities while gaining hands‑on experience in human resources operations. Responsibilities may include assisting with onboarding, preparing HR documents, supporting employee engagement initiatives, The intern will also assist with special projects and help ensure HR processes are organized, accurate, and aligned with company policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, detail‑oriented, and able to handle confidential information with professionalism. Strong communication skills, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are highly valued.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Support new‑hire onboarding and orientation processes.
- Assist with preparing HR-related documents, reports, forms, and correspondence.
- Assist with employee engagement activities,company events, and internal communications.
- Aid HR Staff as needed ensuring HR policies, procedures, and documentation are followed and maintained accurately.
- Assist with specialHR projects, research, data entry,and other initiatives as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling employee andcompany information.
- Perform other dutiesand responsibilities as assigned oras applicable tothe role.
General Education
College: Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
Major: Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, Organizational Psychology, Psychology, or a related field is preferred.
Job-Related
Experience:
- Previous experience inhuman resources, recruiting, administration, customer service, or arelated field is preferred.
- Experience working inan office, professional, or team-oriented environment isa plus.
- Experience handling confidential or sensitive information is preferred.
- Experience with scheduling, data entry, recordkeeping, or administrative tasksis helpful.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, orother HR/business software is aplus.
- Previous internship, volunteer, campus organization, orother relevant experience may be considered in lieu offormal HR experience.
Certifications: No specific certification required.
Licenses, etc.: Valid driver's license is necessary while operating a vehicle while on agency business. Must be able to transport themselves to VSA's Headquarters office (located in Norfolk, VA).
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTKnowledge:
- Basic understanding ofhuman resources principles, practices, and procedures.
- General knowledge of recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and personnel administration.
- Understanding of the importance of confidentiality when handling employee information.

- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and move around the workplace.
- Ability to use standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, printers, and other office devices.
- Primarily work ina professional office environment.
- Regular interaction with employees, candidates, supervisors, and other membersof the organization.
- Work may involve handling confidential and sensitive employee information.
Must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility for issuance of a NASA credential.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
