Job DescriptionThis opportunity is open only to individuals who currently hold an active U.S.Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance at the required level.
Engagement will be under a 1099 / Business-to-Business (B2B) contractual arrangement — not a W-2 employment position.
As this is a B2B / 1099 engagement, benefits such as health insurance, paidtime off, and retirement plans are not provided. Contractors are responsible for managing their own taxes, insurance, and other business obligations in accordance with federal and state requirements.
A meticulous communications professional with a degree in journalism, English, or communications, and significant experience editing and formatting classified and unclassified documents within NATO or defense organizations. The ideal candidate understands NATO documentation standards,classification protocols, and formatting rules, ensuring all materials meet the highest standards of accuracy, consistency, and professionalism.
They should bring a proven ability to transform complex technical or policy material into clear, publication-ready content while upholding security compliance and confidentiality requirements.
Preferred Background:
Editors or technical writers with NATO or defense clearance and document management experience.
- Edit ACT documents to ensure the highest levelof professionalism, clarity, and readability
- Advise individuals and teams on best practices for effective document production and written communication
- Update and maintain the ACT Style Guide,templates, and writing reference materials as needed
- Monitor tasking products through TT+,coordinating with Military Assistants, the Task Management Office, and Tasker Action Officers
- Attend administrative meetings (e.g., Executive Assistant and Military Assistant meetings) to maintain awareness of document requirements and priorities
- Provide organizational briefings and orientations on ACT Style Guide standards and editing support availability
- Teach the 'Strategies for Writing' course asneeded, maintaining and improving course materials based on feedback and organizational needs
- Provide one-on-one writing and speaking coaching to senior leadership (including flag/general officers) as requested
- Develop and teach a 'Presentation Skills' coursefor HQ SACT, maintaining and updating it based on mission requirements
- Support public speaking and briefing preparation for HQ SACT personnel to ensure clarity and consistency in presentation
- Perform additional writing, editing, or communication-related duties as directed by the COTR
- Master’s degree in a writing-intensive field(English, communications, journalism, or related discipline)
- Minimum three (3) years of experience providing editing support for professional or government documents
- Demonstrated experience in developing and producing high-level documents, reports, and briefs
- Minimum five (5) years of experience teaching writing skills, including instruction for non-native English speakers(classroom and individual)
- Knowledge and experience in professional public speaking and course design
- Strong attention to detail, grammar, formatting,and document version control
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders and multinational teams
