AI Engineer Lead

Location: This role requires associates to be in office 1 day per week, fostering collaboration and connectivity, while providing flexibility to support productivity and work-life balance. This approach combines structured office engagement with the autonomy of virtual work, promoting a dynamic and adaptable workplace. Ideal candidates will be able to report to one of our Pulse Point locations in Atlanta, GA, Hanover, MD, Mason, OH, Indianapolis, IN, Ashburn, VA, Norfolk, VA or New York, NY.

Alternate locations may be considered if candidates reside within a commuting distance from an office.

The AI Engineer Lead is responsible for full delivery of end-to-end system development and maintenance on medium Enterprise wide technology platforms.

• Builds rapid AI/ML and GenAI prototypes (POCs/POTs) to explore feasibility, value, and technical patterns.
• Works hands-on with emerging AI frameworks, LLMs, vector databases, and orchestration tools to evaluate applicability across business use cases.
• Collaborates with architects and engineering teams to turn experimental prototypes into foundational patterns, accelerators, and reusable frameworks.
• Leads requirements discussions with the business to understand needs and propose AI-driven solution approaches.
• Drives performance, stability, and scalability improvements across AI-enabled and traditional application components.
• Owns change request processes and coordinates with cross-functional teams during POC and framework development.
• Ensures testing is completed and experimental prototypes are validated against acceptance criteria.
• Supports and enhances the technical development environment, especially environments required for model experimentation and evaluation.
• Participates in vendor assessments, comparing AI technologies, frameworks, and platforms for enterprise adoption.
• Maintains active relationships with customers to determine business requirements and leads requirements gathering meetings.
• Leads requirements gathering meetings and reviews designs with the business.
• Leads efforts with Web and marketing team to increase the presence of web products.
• Implements improvements in stability, performance, and scalability across major business-critical systems.
• Implements process to reduce barriers and roadblocks in projects, services, and processes in order to operate more efficiently.
• Develops and defines application scope and objectives and supervises the preparation of technical and/or functional specifications from with programs will be written.

Minimum Requirements:

Requires an BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field of study and a minimum of 7 years related experience; multi platform, multi-dimensional experience, and expert level experience with business and technical applications; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

• AI/ML and GenAI experience highly preferred.
• Hands-on development (language agnostic) with emerging frameworks not limited to PyTorch, Tensor Flow, Hugging Face, Lang Chain, Llama Index highly preferred.
• Experience building LLM-based prototypes, including RAG, embeddings, prompt engineering, and vector search highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of rapid experimentation, lean POCs, and iterative prototyping highly preferred.
• Familiarity with vector databases and cloud-native AI services highly preferred.
• Understanding of ML Ops fundamentals—model monitoring, pipelines, CI/CD, lightweight deployments highly preferred.
• Ability to evaluate and integrate COTS AI solutions into prototypes highly preferred.
• Passion for staying current with emerging AI tools, frameworks, and research highly preferred.
• Experience mentoring team members in modern AI engineering practice highly preferred.

* range for this specific position is $131,880 to $226,080.
