Job DutiesIt is anticipated that the attorney will handle a broad range of legal matters, serving all divisions of the University. Serving as agency counsel requires advising decision-makers throughout the organization on the legal risks and obligations associated with their duties as employees or board members. This position may also represent NSU in state or federal court, before regulatory bodies, and to third parties in pre-litigation and transactional matters.
Additionally, this individual will provide other legal services to the Commonwealth as directed by the Office of the Attorney General.
- Excellent analytical abilities and written and oral communication skills; respond to legal requests in a timely fashion.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- High level organizational skills; manage many projects simultaneously and work under pressure.
- Must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar or be eligible for immediate admission.
- A minimum of five years of experience in the general practice of law or the service of state agencies or institutions is preferred.
- Preference will be given to applicants with specific experience in the representation of higher education institutions.
