Job Description: Shipboard Welder – Make meaningful contributions that fuel critical outcomes for some of the most complex government, defense, and intelligence projects. Join GDIT as a Shipboard Welder for a career where growth is just as important as the mission you support.
Responsibilities- Applies appropriate welding processes to join surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other weldable materials.
- Must be able to complete a three‑position weld test (V, H, OH) SMAW CS plate test.
- Must be able to complete structural workmanship test.
- Layouts and marks points on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates.
- Positions pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools.
- Inspects completed work for conformance to specifications.
- Provides guidance and work leadership to less‑experienced welders.
- Performs all work in accordance with established security and safety procedures.
- Participates in special projects as required.
- Must be able to obtain all necessary badges (DBIDS and shipyard).
- Able to work on and climb ladders, operate in extreme temperatures, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes up to 75 lbs.

- Experience: 3+ years of related welding experience
- US Citizenship
Required:
Yes - Requires a High School Diploma or GED (Technical or vocational training is a plus).
- Must be able to obtain a DBIDS Badge for access to Naval Bases, Naval Facilities, and private shipyards (BAE, NASSCO, etc.).
