CNC Lathe Machinist (1st Shift)

Location:

Norfolk , VA area

Schedule:

1st Shift | Monday – Friday | 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Pay Rate: $19.00 – $26.00 / hour (based on experience)

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Lathe Machinist to join our production team on 1st shift. In this role, you will manufacture high-precision parts strictly to engineering specifications with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate brings strong independent setup capabilities, a deep understanding of GD&T, and a proven track record in precision turning operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Machine Setup & Operation:
    Independently set up and operate CNC lathes. Adjust speeds, feeds, coolant flow, and tool offsets to optimize machining processes.
  • Blueprint Reading & Quality Control:
    Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T requirements. Conduct first-piece and in-process inspections using precision handheld measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, bore gages).
  • Process Monitoring:
    Monitor machining operations for out-of-tolerance conditions, tool wear, or mechanical issues, making real-time adjustments as needed.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    Maintain precise part counts, complete required shop paperwork, and log quality inspection results accurately.
  • Safety & Maintenance:
    Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with all shop safety standards and daily machine maintenance protocols.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience:

    Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC lathes required.
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Proficient in reading engineering drawings/blueprints, applying GD&T standards, and using handheld inspection tools.
  • Mathematics:
    Strong basic shop math and calculation skills.
  • Autonomy:
    Ability to work independently with minimal daily supervision while maintaining high output and tight tolerances.
  • Education:

    High school diploma or GED required; technical school certification or machinist apprenticeship preferred.
