I. JOB SUMMARYAs a key leader in a person-centered care environment, the Nursing Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Home. This role is vital in ensuring the highest standards of clinical and personal care for individuals, 24/7. The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for initiating emergency procedures when necessary, planning and coordinating nursing activities, and effectively organizing, directing, and assigning nursing staff.
In addition to managing daily operations, the Nursing Supervisor plays an integral role in the recruitment and performance assessment of nursing staff. Proficiency in nursing practices is essential, as the Supervisor may also be required to take on nursing assignments when needed. This position demands a compassionate leader committed to maintaining exceptional care standards and fostering a collaborative, high-performing team.
II. RESPONSIBILITIES- Following guidelines issued by the Director of Nursing (DON)
- Updates the DON regularly on all staff and resident issues of significance.
- Manages and supervises unit nurses; is visible and accessible on the units, practicing a hands‑on approach to clinical care.
- Plans and evaluates the overall nursing needs of the individuals served at The Home.
- Coordinates with the Clinic and Appointment nurses to ensure that the clinical needs of the individuals cared for at The Home are met.
- Takes a leadership role in effecting positive changes and is a role model for the Nursing Department as an integral component of The Home’s interdisciplinary environment.
- Evaluation of possible admissions. Coordinates new admissions and discharges with unit nurses and other departments. Final coordination of admissions and discharges.
- Assists unit nurses in coordinating with hospital staff on emergency discharges to a hospital and readmission back to The Home.
- Coordinates the daily nursing assignments, staffing needs and related changes.
- Updates staff schedule using the Kronos timekeeping system and the Agenda scheduling system. Responsible for submitting timecards assigned.
- Ensures assigned staff compliance with facility and departmental policies and procedures to provide the highest standards of practice.
- Maintains an efficient, effective and positive working and living environment for staff, residents and their visitors/family members and addresses concerns appropriately.
- Within DON guidelines, manages a self‑schedule that includes monitoring evening, night and weekend shift staff performance
- Monitors preceptor performance in the floor training of new nurses
- Demonstrates a desire to increase knowledge of nursing principles as they apply to the care of all individuals being served
- Attends all in‑services posted as mandatory and completes additional fifteen hours of Continuing Educational Credits (CEU) every year.
- Executes other tasks, as assigned.
- Coordinate/Schedule/Greet and Monitor Nursing School Clinicals.
- Reports. Attends meetings that require a nursing representative.
- Assist in coordinating and attending out of building visits/appointments/outings for individuals as needed.
- Will work patient assignment as needed.
- All other duties as assigned by Manager.

- Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program
- BS Nursing preferred
- Current Virginia RN licensure
- Strong leadership qualities and characteristics

- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Exhibits strong leadership and managerial skills
- Committed to the team approach and person centered care
- Ability to work effectively with others and can demonstrate mature guidance, leadership and flexibility.
- Minimum of 2 years Med‑Surgical or Pediatric or Psychiatric Nursing experience
- At least one year of supervisory experience preferably in a medical setting
- Long‑Term care experience preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB
- Must be able to sit, stand and walk for variable periods of time.
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds independently.
- Must be able to use lifting and mobility equipment necessary to care for the individuals served.
This is a full‑time, non‑exempt position, which requires a flexible work schedule that may include some work extending past hours to meet the needs of the Home.
Hours of WorkMonday‑Friday. Must work 2 weekend shifts a month.
