Job Duties- The Quantum Electronics Group (QEG) in the Department of Physics at Norfolk State University seeks a postdoctoral associate with expertise in nonlinear and ultrafast optics, high power diode-pumped lasers, and laser spectroscopy of materials at cryogenic temperatures.
- Conduct research on magneto-optics, low temperature and high magnetic field microscopy, and ultrafast two-color, pump-probe experiments on strongly correlated electron systems, topological insulators, 2D materials, thin films, nonlinear optical crystals and quantum devices incorporating some of these materials.
- Work with laser facilities including: a 5W Solstice regenerative amplifier, two Topas Prime/NIRUV OPA’s, Mai Tai fs laser, a Quantum Design Opti Cool cryostat (4K–300K range) with magnetic field up to 7 T, and related optics and electronics.
- Engage in materials and device fabrication in the NSU Crystal Physics and Quantum Electronics Laboratory and in the NSU-Micron Class
100/1000 Cleanroom (McDemmond Center for Applied Research). Facilities include single crystal floating zone growth, Bridgman crystal growth stations, a 14T, 50 mK Quantum Dynamics PPMS, a low temperature XRD, Laue back scattering, and state-of-the-art cleanroom fabrication systems. - Note:

- PhD in physics, optical engineering, or a related discipline relevant to research.
- Interest and ability to communicate and mentor a diverse student body of undergraduate and graduate students, to work in close collaboration with members of the Quantum Electronics Group, and to take initiative to work independently.
