Overview
Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Full Time Security Officer. The role provides a physically safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees at Sentara Hospitals and Free‑standing Emergency Departments. Responsibilities include actively patrolling campus, monitoring activity, responding to routine and emergency situations, performing camera surveillance, maintaining logs and records, documenting daily activities, conducting security investigations, evaluating situations, and taking timely actions for professional resolution.
The hospital is located in Norfolk, VA.
Location & ShiftNorfolk, VA – Second (Evenings) from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Full‑time, 40 hours per week.
Responsibilities- Patrol campus and monitor activity in and around buildings and grounds.
- Respond appropriately to routine and emergency situations.
- Perform camera surveillance.
- Maintain department logs and records using computer skills for documentation.
- Conduct security investigations, evaluate situations, and take appropriate steps for professional and timely resolution.
- Implement and maintain a Fit for Duty assessment (response walk, stair climb, drag to safety, lift).
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- One year of security experience; former military, law enforcement, or security officer experience preferred.
- De‑escalation and Physical Intervention training completed within 180 days of hire.
- Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification by the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) obtained within 90 days of hire.
