Overview

Security Officer - Full Time (Job ) at Colonna's Shipyard, Norfolk, VA.

• Draft daily reports outlining activities and any disturbances.
• Verify identification badges of employees, visitors, subcontractors, and temporary employees.
• Check tool bags and vehicles entering or exiting the shipyard and its premises.
• Log all visitors.
• Confirm property passes when material is removed from the facility.
• Escort terminated employees, or any person requiring removal, from the facility.
• Investigate and report suspicious activity.
• Operate parking lot gates as needed.
• Conduct thorough patrols, both foot and vehicular, of the entire shipyard, vessels, dry docks, buildings, piers, mobile offices, off-site properties and trade shops.
• In case of fire or other emergencies, contact fire departments or other appropriate service providers.
• Check lights, alarm systems, windows, doors, and gates for proper functioning.
• Provide First Aid/CPR in the absence of Safety Personnel and maintain qualifications for First Responder.
• Work in conjunction with the Captain / Corporal.

• Must have at least 2 years patrolling experience and an Active DCJS Armed Certification or willingness to obtain/renew.
• Must have their own weapon.
• Must be available to work all shifts (1st, 2nd, 3rd).
• Must have reliable transportation and a valid Driver’s License with a record that allows operation of company vehicles.
• Must have a stable employment history.
• Must be capable of passing a physical fitness test, health exam, background investigation and periodic drug test.
• Must be qualified as a First Responder/CPR.
• Must be able to act upon instruction.
• Must be able to climb metal stairs, inclined gangways, and vertical ladders up to 40 feet in case of an emergency.
• Must wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots/shoes) and, when necessary, a respirator.
• Must be able to work independently to complete responsibilities.
• Must have regular, reliable attendance.

• Prefer VADCJS Armed Security Officer Arrest Authority.

• Minimal travel; 10% or less.

• Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes (no less than 20 lbs; exact weight determined by assignment).
• Able to climb ladders and work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including entering and moving through manholes.
• Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions.
• Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
• Employee may be required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts.
• While performing duties, may stand, walk, sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear; occasionally reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl.
• Work in extreme temperatures and environments; may be in areas with less adequate ventilation.
• Frequent use of respirator.
