Overview

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is seeking an experienced and forward‑thinking Director, Security to lead and continuously advance a comprehensive safety and security program across a large, complex healthcare environment. This leader will help guide the strategic vision for protecting patients, staff and visitors while fostering a culture of safety, respect and service excellence.

• Operational success of the Unit.
• Leading armed security personnel with deep operational expertise.
• Strategic foresight, calm operational leadership, legal acuity, and collaborative influence.
• Ensuring all Armed Security Officers exercise discretion regarding the use of their weapon, only employing it in extreme attack when all non‑violent options have been exhausted.

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Fit for Duty assessment successful.
• Pass psychological evaluation and assessment conducted by Sentara selected Service Provider.
• Obtain Virginia DCJS – Armed Officer Certificate within 90 days of hire.
• De‑escalation training and physical intervention training certification completed within 180 days of hire. Handle with Care‑Instructor acceptable in lieu of basic Handle with Care training.
