Colonna's Shipyard is seeking a Specialist to support the Maintenance Shop in Norfolk, VA.

Job Description
  • Maintain a technical working knowledge of all gas and diesel engines including their features, advantages and benefits over competitive engines.
  • Understand ECM’s. Create and update wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, dyno controls, test plans and standard work to support the team.
  • Provide technical assistance and/or guidance to team members when needed, resolve any process related issues as required.
  • Create and update work orders in Fleet Maintenance system.
  • Has the capability to determine root cause of failure and assign accountability.
  • Manage all aspects of developing and prioritizing projects from concept to closure to meet schedule and performance requirements.
  • Respond to inquiries from aftermarket repair shops and customers related to diagnosis, installation, troubleshooting and repair of gas and diesel engines.
  • Work with suppliers, order inventory, perform audits on company programs.
  • Manage the technical support and training activities within shop.
  • Participate in complex technical aspects of the repairs.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle repair shop procedures and practices; including labor guides and part prices.
  • Reason and negotiate when applicable while being approachable and adaptable to new ideas.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and at least eight (8) years of experience in maintaining and repairing gas and diesel equipment and engines.
  • Must have knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with the trade.
  • Must be able to work effectively with others.
  • Must be able to use advanced diagnostic equipment and software to troubleshoot engines and other system problems.
  • Must have extensive knowledge in maintaining and repairing fuel injection systems.
  • Must be a steady, reliable worker.
  • Must have regular, reliable attendance.
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow instructions.
  • Must be able to work independently to complete responsibilities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prefer previous experience at Colonna’s Shipyard.
  • Prefer industry certifications, licenses or formalized training in a technical or automotive field.
  • Prefer Marine Travel Lift experience.
Travel Requirements
  • Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes; no less than 20 lbs.
  • Must be physically agile to perform tasks on various equipment; able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and move through manholes.
  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
  • Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
  • Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts.
  • While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl.
  • Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation.
  • Protective clothing or equipment and face shields or goggles shall be worn when welding, cutting, or working with molten metal.
