Utility Maintenance Mechanic I - Water Production (Western Branch)
The City of Norfolk's Department of Utilities is seeking a Utility Maintenance Mechanic I in our Water Production Division. The position works independently in the maintenance and repairing of water pipelines and various types of equipment. Responsibilities include daily inspections, verifying and documenting operating system conditions, and maintaining accurate records and reports.
Essential Functions- Perform minor overhauls, repairs, replacement and maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, chemical feeders, hydraulic equipment, mixers and other water treatment equipment.
- Perform inspections daily; verify and document operating system conditions.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on machinery and activities.
- Read manuals and troubleshoot problems.
- Climb ladders and stairs, bend, walk, push, pull, stoop and lift up to 75 lbs throughout an 8-hour work day; work in limited access and confined space areas; wear respiratory equipment.
Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency. One year in machinery repair or maintenance required. Desired candidate will possess two years of machinery repair or maintenance experience. Valid Driver's License required.
Work HoursMonday - Friday; 6:30 a.m.
