We are seeking an experienced Marine Outside Machinist to perform installation, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of mechanical equipment and machinery aboard naval and commercial vessels. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on shipyard experience working with propulsion systems, pumps, valves, shafting, bearings, and other shipboard mechanical equipment.
Candidates must be able to work safely in a fast‑paced shipyard environment, read technical drawings, use precision measuring instruments, and perform mechanical work to required specifications and tolerances.
Responsibilities- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul shipboard mechanical equipment and systems.
- Remove, repair, align, and reinstall pumps, valves, bearings, shafting, couplings, and related machinery.
- Perform maintenance and repair work on propulsion and auxiliary mechanical systems.
- Disassemble mechanical equipment, inspect components for wear or damage, and reassemble equipment according to specifications.
- Perform equipment alignment and take accurate measurements using precision measuring tools.
- Use micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, feeler gauges, depth gauges, and other precision instruments.
- Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, technical manuals, specifications, and work packages.
- Perform bolting, torquing, fitting, rigging, and equipment installation as required.
- Assist with shaft, bearing, and coupling alignment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical equipment and determine necessary repairs or adjustments.
- Work aboard ships in confined spaces, machinery spaces, tanks, and other restricted‑access areas.
- Follow all shipyard, OSHA, NAVSEA, and company safety requirements.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and orderly condition.
- Complete assigned work according to quality standards and production schedules.
- Minimum 3–5 years of marine/shipyard experience as an Outside Machinist preferred.
- Previous experience working aboard U.S. Navy, military, or commercial vessels strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of shipboard mechanical equipment, including pumps, valves, bearings, shafting, and propulsion‑related components.
- Experience performing equipment alignment and precision measurements.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- Knowledge of proper mechanical assembly, disassembly, torque, and alignment procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must be safety‑conscious and able to follow established shipyard procedures.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to work aboard vessels and in industrial shipyard environments.
- Must be comfortable working around machinery, noise, heights, and varying weather conditions.
- United States Citizen
- DBIDs eligible
- Minimum of 5 years marine electrician experience
Pay: $24.00- $28.00 Per hour”
