Certified Teacher – Special Education (LBS1)

Summary: Provides specialized instruction to meet the unique educational needs of students with disabilities, evaluates and assesses progress in accordance with each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) in a variety of settings.

DUTIES

• Demonstrate knowledge of specialized curriculum and assistive technology.
• Establish and maintain open lines of communication between students and their parents regarding academic and behavioral progress.
• Evaluate academic and social growth of students, maintain records, and complete progress reports.
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
• Assess student progress and determine the need for adjustments to instructional techniques.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, school psychologists, learning disabilities specialists, speech/hearing specialists, occupational and physical therapists, guidance counselors, adaptive PE teachers, and school social workers to provide an integrated plan for student development.
• Plan and implement instructional programs (district interventions) in accordance with district philosophy and curriculum objectives.
• Deliver instruction designed to engage all students and adjust lessons as needed to improve academic and interpersonal skills.
• As part of an educational team, evaluate and develop individual education plans, including long‑term goals and short‑term objectives, for students in various settings.
• Collaborate with the educational team regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans, and other interventions to meet student needs.
• Pursue continued professional growth through ongoing development activities such as book studies, district trainings, seminars, workshops, conferences, and advanced coursework.
• Assess student progress using standardized and informal testing to monitor growth.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Teaching certificate for the position as required by the State.
• Proficiency with computers, including electronic mail, the Internet, word processing, and spreadsheets (Microsoft Office).
• Establish and maintain effective, courteous working relationships with students, parents, and staff.
• Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate to students, parents, and staff in an acceptable and courteous manner.

Compensation

For the 2025‑2026 school year, the starting salary range for candidates with a Bachelor's Degree is $41,804 – $51,669 and for those with a Master's Degree is $46,820 – $60,197, based on education and teaching experience.
