SummaryThis position provides guidance to students and performs a wide variety of tasks focused on moving students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.
Duties- Provides a constant support system to the student in order to help each student achieve a successful emotional, social and educational adjustment.
- Eases the transition from elementary to junior high and from junior high to high school by providing support and orientation for each student.
- Provides personal counseling for students.
- Makes referrals if the student is in need of specialized services.
- Acts as a monitor of the students’ overall academic success and to make such changes or interventions as necessary to help students receive a good education.
- Acts as a liaison among teachers, administrators, parents and students by providing information and formulating problem-solving alternatives when the need arises.
- Provides vocational guidance for making appropriate choices in course selection and preparation for post high school alternatives.
- Meets with personnel from Special Services to discuss placement of special-needs students.
- Confers with teachers concerning students.
- Schedules and participates in staffings and conferences as requested by parents, teachers, students, or counselors.
- Facilitates communication between teachers and parents by asking for academic and disciplinary reports, arranging conferences, and getting information to and from teachers.
- Keeps cumulative records, personal histories, grades, test results and other pertinent records.
- Refers students to other agencies or departments, i.e., speech, reading, psychological services and social work.
- Registers, schedules, and provides orientation for all new students as they enroll throughout the year.
- Conducts group sessions when deemed appropriate.
- Identifies potential school drop-outs and counsels them appropriately.
- Provides job information to the students as it becomes available.
- Conducts professional consultations with colleagues from other specialized services.
- Perform all other duties reasonably related to position as may be assigned by the Principal and/or Assistant Principal.
- Teaching certificate for the particular position as required by the State.
- Must be familiar with the use of computers including but not limited to electronic mail, the Internet, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets (Microsoft Office).
- Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff).
- Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate to students, parents and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
Fully Board Paid Medical, Dental, and Vision available. Per the negotiated contract between McLean County Unit 5 and the United Five Education Association, for the school year the starting salary range for candidates with a Bachelor's Degree is $42,640-$52,319 and is based upon Education and Certified Teaching experience. Candidates with a Master's Degree is $47,756-$61,017 and is based upon Education and Certified Teaching experience.
