Job SummaryThe Preview Guide has these responsibilities during Preview:
- The Preview Guide is the front line representative of the Preview program and is responsible for a group of approximately 20-30 incoming freshmen at a time.
- The Preview Guide interacts with parents and family members of the incoming students and is responsible for hosting a group of 200 family members during their two day visit.
- The Preview Guide will assist in the office when not directly responsible for either students or family members.
- Preview Guides will assist as needed during Admissions events.
- Preview Guides will work in the fall at various orientation events and recruiting new guides for the upcoming year.
Approximately 4200 students and their families participate in the Preview program, which has a significant impact on their experience at Illinois State University. The Preview Guides assume responsibility for the program and are viewed by Preview participants as the most important people with whom they interact. All applicants will have two interviews, a group interview and a one‑on‑one interview. Cuts are made at that point and those selected will have a third interview with Preview staff members.
PreviewGuide Application and Interview Timeline
- January 21:
Posting ends. You should have your first two interviews scheduled (see instructions for this below). - January 26-30:
First interviews are conducted. (This is a group interview conducted by past Preview Guides) - February 2-6:
Second interviews are conducted. (This is a one‑on‑one interview with a professional staff member on campus) - February 9:
Final interview cuts. Calls are made to candidates eligible for a third interview. - February 16-27:
Final interviews with Preview staff members. - March 4:
Hiring decisions are made and notices sent out.
Full commitment of time and effort to the Preview program May 21-July 17.
Summer classes or other forms of employment are only allowed if they do not interfere with the Preview Guide work schedule.
Live‑in housing is provided (but not required) during the Preview program, including summer training prior to Preview beginning. Move‑in is May 21 and move‑out is on or by July 17.

Pay Rate$15.00/hour
