Job Summary

The majority of the graduate teaching assistant’s primary duties are in support of instruction including but not limited to the responsibilities below:

  • Serve as a primary or secondary teaching instructor in a class or laboratory.
  • Assist a faculty member with teaching-related tasks.
  • Grade student assignments which require knowledge of subjects taught in a class or laboratory.
  • Meet with and/or tutor students, hold office hours, prepare instructional materials, and assist during class and/or lab.
  • For this position, Teaching Assistant will assist with one section of SWK 170:
    Introduction to Social Work.

    Salary Rate / Pay Rate

    $755/month

    Required Qualifications
  • Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook which can be found at Graduate Assistant Handbook.
  • Applicants must already be a MSW degree seeking student in the School of Social Work at Illinois State University.
  • For Teaching Assistant positions, State law mandates demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position.
  • Strong organization, writing, and communication skills.
  • Work Hours

    12-2pm Tuesdays & Thursdays (SWK 170 is 12:35-1:50pm Tuesdays & Thursdays)
    6 Additional Hours – Schedule TBD

    Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held. International students are restricted by their visa status to no more than 20 hours per week of on-campus employment when the university is in session but may work up to 28 hours per week when the university is not in session.
