Summary

Responsible for quality of patient care in all areas of assigned responsibility. Achieves and maintains an effective and harmonious multidisciplinary team of professionals through leadership, supervision, and daily management of a specific program.

Job Responsibilities
  • Patient Care: Ensures that appropriate standards of care are consistently met within assigned areas, aligning with hospital goals, policies, and procedures. This includes maintaining clinical standards, mentoring staff, and ensuring compliance with accreditation agencies (e.g., MDPH, CARF). Responsible for ensuring adequate staffing, equipment, and supplies to meet patient needs.
  • Clinical Knowledge: Maintains up-to-date knowledge of trends and best practices in rehabilitation. Builds and sustains professional relationships with peers and external colleagues to support continuous learning and innovation.
  • Fiscal Responsibility: Contributes to the development of productivity goals and monitors staff performance to ensure targets are met. Provides data and insights to support budget planning and resource allocation.
  • Staff Selection and Performance Management: Leads recruitment, hiring, orientation, and training of new staff. Oversees daily operations of clinical and coverage service staff. Provides regular performance feedback, sets measurable goals, and conducts formal evaluations.
  • Staff Development and Mentoring: Oversees onboarding and ongoing professional development of staff. Promotes a culture of continuous learning through formal and informal education, using competency‑based systems to support growth.
  • Quality Improvement: Identifies areas for improvement and implements solutions to enhance care delivery. Actively supports initiatives to improve patient and family satisfaction and participates in departmental quality monitoring efforts.
  • Professional Work Environment: Fosters a culture of accountability, respect, open communication, adaptability, and pride. Encourages team members to embrace change and contribute positively to the work environment.
  • Interdepartmental and Interdisciplinary

    Collaboration:

    Promotes effective collaboration across departments and disciplines. Maintains strong working relationships with medical directors and admitting physicians. Participates in or leads team meetings, physician conferences, task forces, and other collaborative forums.
  • Program Development and Marketing: Supports the development and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, and protocols. Participates in marketing initiatives and maintains relationships with referral sources. Leads or coordinates special projects and community engagement events as assigned.
Customer Service Responsibilities

Demonstrate excellent customer service and standards of behaviors as well as encourages, coaches, and monitors the same in team members. This individual should consistently promote teamwork and direct communication with co‑workers and deal discretely and sensitively with confidential information.

Responsibilities in Quality Improvement

Contribute by identifying problems and seeking solutions. Promote patient/family satisfaction where possible; participates in departmental efforts to monitor and report customer service.

Essential Job Qualifications
  • ​Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, or a related field, or significant experience required.
  • Graduate of an accredited program in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Recreational Therapy, or Speech‑Language Pathology. Graduates of accredited PTA or COTA programs will also be considered.
  • Current licensure or eligibility for licensure in the State of service in the relevant clinical discipline.
  • Current CPR certification in accordance with departmental and program protocols.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in a clinical rehabilitation setting.
  • Demonstrated expertise in a specific diagnostic area of rehabilitation (e.g., neuro, ortho, pediatrics, geriatrics).
