Overview
Responsibilities include the coordination and provision of direct and indirect patient care using the nursing process to meet the physical, psychosocial, environmental, and spiritual needs of the General Surgery patient populations and families throughout the geographical area. Telephonically triages incoming home care and hospital calls using the nursing process. RN will assess, evaluate, prioritize, and manage patients' symptoms, treatments, and health concerns based on level of urgency and follow established guidelines for symptom management.
Using evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion and skilled dialogue, the registered nurse leads efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience.

- Establishes nursing standards, assesses health needs, and plans and evaluates care with patients including those that may have complex health problems.
- Uses specialized knowledge and skills for patient care supervision.
- Serves as resource within the department, organization and/or community.
- Provides and facilitates competent health care of patients and families in area of practice.
- Ensures adherence to established standards and practice.
- Ensures documentation of care is complete and accurate.
- Engage with inter professional colleagues to deliver exemplary care and may assist as preceptor within department to other clinical staff per higher office education.
- May assist in scheduling surgeries or procedures as needed.
- Work with other clinical staff providing advice and direction as needed.
- Seeks out opportunities to provide effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills, promoting collaboration among healthcare team members.
- Collaborates with all staff by verbal, phone or email regarding patient care issues.
- Primarily provides telehealth triage for our patient population for the Carle organization whether acute needs or non acute.
- Follows established protocols for pre procedure advice as well as symptom management.
- Documents all patient care clearly, concisely and timely in accordance with established policies and procedures, state and federal Accrediting Organization accreditation standards.
- Calls patients post operatively and documents, their recovery.
- Manages the emergency box/supplies and monitors the oxygen tank.
- Provides forms and letters at the request of the patient in collaboration with the provider.
