Whether you prefer at‑home veterinary care or our fully equipped hospital, our veterinarians provide the latest in pet health care, including wellness care, vaccines, dental care, surgery, digital X‑rays, in‑house laboratory services, and ultrasound diagnostic care.

Position Purpose

Smart Vet, located in Normal, Illinois, is seeking an experienced and compassionate Managing DVM to lead our dedicated team and help shape the future of our hybrid mobile and hospital‑based veterinary practice serving the Bloomington–Normal area.

As the Managing DVM, you will lead and mentor a talented group of veterinarians and support staff, oversee medical operations, and uphold the highest standards of patient care. The ideal candidate is a strong leader who is passionate about mentoring others, enjoys practicing high‑quality medicine, and embraces Smart Vet’s mission to provide flexible and accessible pet care through both in‑home and in‑hospital services.

Essential

Responsibilities
  • Examine and treat companion animals to detect and determine the nature of disease or injuries.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment and collect diagnostic samples as well as interpret results.
  • Advise pet owners on preventative care and treatment options.
  • Perform surgery and prescribe medication as needed.
  • Provide counsel around pet end‑of‑life care.
  • Maintain patients’ medical records.
  • Ensure compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statutes, policies, and procedures.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • DVM/VMD degree from an accredited AVMA institution.
  • Appropriate state licensure.
  • Eligibility to obtain DEA/BNDD.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates professional and courteous presentation consistently with staff and clients.
  • Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance.
