A Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader is a student who provides peer academic support for an assigned course. SI Leaders help students at the University of Oklahoma better understand course concepts through collaborative, peer‑led sessions.
The position typically requires a time commitment of 10 hours per week during the academic semester, with some weeks requiring additional hours for training and professional development. SI Leaders attend all class lectures, promote sessions through announcements and reminders, and communicate regularly with course instructors and the SLC Admin Team.
SI Leaders display a welcoming attitude, support peer learning, and perform other related duties as assigned.

SI Leaders will:
- Attend all lectures with students to refresh course content, stay on pace with instruction, and build rapport.
- Promote SI and motivate students to attend SI sessions through class announcements, board reminders, and electronic communication.
- Creatively plan for SI sessions including preparing session plans, interactive activities, worksheets, and other resources that encourage peer‑to‑peer learning.
- Facilitate two or three SI sessions per week (totaling 3 hours) using collaborative and active learning strategies.
- Participate in staff development and leadership opportunities, including onboarding, semester conferences and trainings, staff meetings, and peer SI Leader observations.
- Complete administrative responsibilities including creating and submitting lesson plans, and recording and submitting attendance in a timely manner.
- Develop relationships and maintain communication with students, supervisors, and course instructor(s) and facilitate relationship‑building among students.
- Assist students in becoming familiar with study skills and university resources.
- Serve as a role model, exhibit good student behavior, and maintain a professional work ethic.

Required Education
:
Must be currently enrolled in the Spring 2026 term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.
- Must attach ONE Spring 2026 class schedule
- Undergraduate applicants must have completed a minimum of 12 undergraduate hours as an OU Norman campus student. This requirement does not apply to graduate applicants
- Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, have earned at least a “B” in the course(s) that will be supported, and have taken the course at the University of Oklahoma

- CHEM 1315 – General Chemistry I
- CHEM 1415 – General Chemistry II
Skills
:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Basic computer proficiency (e.g., email, document editing, file sharing)
Department Preferences
:
- Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher
- Earned an "A" in the courses of interest
- Awarded Work Study
