Job Description - Student PLA - Business Tutor (Spring) (252383)
Peer Learning Assistants (tutors) provide academic assistance for students enrolled in targeted first‑year or upper‑division, instructor‑managed sessions, and are responsible for preparing for and staffing weekly small‑group, in‑person or online tutoring sessions. PLAs help maintain attendance records, facilitate study skills consultations, and attend training sessions at the beginning of the semester.
- New PLA Onboarding:
Prior to classes (Based on student availability) - CRLA Training Conference: TBA (Friday, January 23, 2026, 4pm – 7pm or Saturday, January 24, 2026, 8am – 1pm)
PLAs communicate with course instructors regarding course materials and promotion of sessions and communicate progress with the Student Learning Center Director and the SLC Lead team.
PLAs should expect a minimum average time commitment of 6 hours per week with opportunities for additional hours.
Portray a welcoming, inviting attitude, be committed to creating an inclusive environment, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Job RequirementsRequired Education
:
- Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in the Spring 2026 Term at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.
- Must attach Spring 2026 ONE class schedule.
- Must have completed a minimum of 12 undergraduate hours as an OU Norman Campus student.
- Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, have earned at least a "B" in the course(s) that will be tutored, and have taken the course at University of Oklahoma. AP credit and/or professor recommendations can substitute for having taken the course, or in the case of languages, being a native speaker would qualify in lieu of having taken the course.
- Specific Courses: ACCT 2113, ACCT 2123, ACCT 3113, ACCT 3123, ACCT 3313, ACCT 3603, ECON 1113, ECON 0123, ECON 2843, ECON 3113, MIS 2113, MIS 3353.
Skills
:
- Effective communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
Department Preferences
:
- Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher.
- Earned an "A" in the courses of interest.
- Awarded work study.
