Job Description

Peer Learning Assistants (tutors) provide academic assistance for students enrolled in one of the target first-year courses and/or upper‑division, instructor‑managed sessions, and are responsible for preparing for and staffing weekly, small group, in‑person or online tutoring sessions. Peer Learning Assistants (PLAs) help maintain attendance records, facilitate study skills consultations, and must attend the following training sessions at the beginning of the semester.

  • New PLA Onboarding:
    Prior to classes (Based on student availability)
  • CRLA Training Conference: TBA (Friday, January 23, 2026, 4pm - 7pm or Saturday, January 24, 2026, 8am - 1pm)
  • PLAs communicate with course instructors regarding course materials and promotion of sessions and communicate progress with Student Learning Center Director and the SLC Lead team.
  • PLAs should expect a minimum average time commitment of 6 hours per week with opportunities for additional hours.
  • Portray a welcoming, inviting attitude, be committed to creating an inclusive environment, and perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Please provide the name and contact information for at least one OU faculty or staff member who can serve as a reference.

Job Requirements Required Education

Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in the Spring 2026 Term at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

  • Must attach Spring 2026 ONE class schedule
  • Must have completed a minimum of 12 undergraduate hours as an OU Norman Campus student
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA, have earned at least a "B" in the course(s) that will be tutored, and have taken the course at University of Oklahoma. AP credit and/or professor recommendations can substitute for having taken the course, or in the case of languages being a native speaker would qualify in lieu of having taken the course.
  • Specific Courses: CHEM 1315, CHEM 1415, CHEM 3053, CHEM 3153, CHEM 3653, CHEM 3753, and any PSY courses.
