The Digitization Lab, located in Bizzell Memorial Library, focuses on high‑quality digitization of cultural heritage materials from OU Libraries’ History of Science Collections, Western History Collections, Bass Business History Collection, and other special collections.
Student Library Assistants (SLAs) will work independently in a team‑based and project‑based environment to digitize diverse special collections items and other materials, perform post‑processing work and metadata entry, and prepare items for online digital collections. Materials will include rare books, manuscript collections, theses, and maps. The department will provide initial training as well as ongoing skill development. SLAs may also perform other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities- Digitize rare books, manuscripts, theses, maps, and other special collections items.
- Perform post‑processing work and metadata entry for digitized materials.
- Prepare items for inclusion in online digital collections.
- Collaborate with team members to complete projects with minimal supervision.
- Adhere to safety and operational protocols, including required minimum hours and hours of operation.
- Currently enrolled in the Spring semester as a student in good standing at the University of Oklahoma.
- Must attach Spring 2026 class schedule.
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills.
- Good computer skills and familiarity with macOS and Windows; ability to learn new technology and software.
- Detail‑oriented with the ability to complete tasks independently while collaborating with staff and peer students.
- Ability to perform physical requirements: stooping, reaching, lifting, repetitive motions, close visual acuity, color discrimination.
- Interest in digital collections and experience with image processing software (Adobe Lightroom, Acrobat Pro), spreadsheets (Excel), and photography.
