Credentials
  • Current Oklahoma Certificate as a Special Education Teacher
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education (or meets state requirement)
Contract
  • 182 days (+ New Teacher Induction week for teachers new to NPS)
FLSA Classification
  • Exempt
Essential Job Functions
  • Perform applicable classroom teacher duties.
  • Initiate and participate in categorical eligibility meetings as an expert in an IDEA‑BPL 101‑746 category.
  • Ensure each child has an IEP with required signatures.
  • Monitor the implementation of IEPs.
  • Review, write, and update IEPs annually.
  • Create and maintain a locked special education file containing:

• Teacher assessments covering pre‑year and post‑year evaluation of student progress.

• Current IEPs with required signatures.

• Most recent psychological evaluations.

• Pertinent medical information.

  • Provide building principal with advice on special education issues.
  • Provide staff with in‑service sessions each year per district policies and state/federal regulations.
  • Collaborate, consult, schedule, and instruct regular education staff regarding classroom inclusion, intervention, and modification techniques.
  • Meet physical, social, and educational needs of students.
  • Inform appropriate staff of necessary medical and other information.
  • Assist students in taking prescribed medication(s).
  • Lift and/or move non‑ambulatory students.
  • Assist with diapering and toilet use for students age three to adult.
  • Adapt foods and assist in feeding students.
  • Maintain a professional appearance appropriate to teaching assignment.
  • Display well‑rounded knowledge and understanding of multicultural issues.
  • Perform teaching and reporting requirements identified as part of state and federally funded programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
