Peer Learning Assistants (PLAs) provide academic assistance for students enrolled in target first‑year courses or upper‑division instructor‑managed sessions. PLAs prepare for and staff weekly, small‑group tutoring sessions (in‑person or online), maintain attendance records, facilitate study‑skills consultations, and attend required training sessions at the beginning of the semester.
PLAs communicate with course instructors regarding materials and promotion of sessions and report progress to the Student Learning Center Director and the SLC Lead team.
PLAs should commit a minimum average of 6 hours per week with opportunities for additional hours.
Present a welcoming, inclusive attitude and perform other related duties as assigned.
Training Sessions- New PLA Onboarding: prior to classes (based on student availability)
- CRLA Training Conference: TBA (Friday, January 23, 2026, 4pm – 7pm or Saturday, January 24, 2026, 8am – 1pm)
- Education: Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student for the Spring 2026 Term at the University of Oklahoma. Verification of current student status is required.
- Attach Spring 2026 ONE class schedule.
- Completed a minimum of 12 undergraduate hours as an OU Norman Campus student.
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA; earned at least a "B" in the course(s) to be tutored, or have taken the course at OU; alternative qualifications include AP credit, professor recommendation, or native speaker status for languages.
- Specific courses: ARAB 1225/2223/3423, CHIN 1115/1225/2113/2223, FR 1115/1225/2113/2223, GERM 1115/1225/2113/2223, ITAL 1115/1225/2113/2223/3073/3423, LING 2303/3033, PERS 1225/2223, RUSS 1115/1225/2113/2223, SPAN 1115/1225/2113/2223.
- Skills: Effective communication skills, basic computer skills.
- Department Preferences: Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher, earned an "A" in the course(s) of interest, awarded work study.
