Position summary

This position role is to provide technical expertise to the project team for determination of subsurface hydrogeological characteristics in support of validating the In Situ Recovery uranium mining operations at Ur-Energy projects as well as characterizing the regional groundwater systems to ensure environmental stewardship. The role is also anticipated may support prospective mineral projects and possible special projects and research.

  • Apply hydrogeologic expertise to design and interpret investigations, support groundwater modeling, develop conceptual site models, and identify practical solutions for groundwater management, permitting, and remediation across the site.
  • Collect and interpret data, hydraulic parameters, and water chemistry primarily for confined sandstone host aquifers.
  • Collaborate in monitoring well network design for regional, project and mine unit-scale applications.
  • Design and conduct aquifer pumping test programs for regional and mine unit multi-well aquifer testing.
  • Perform detailed hydrogeological assessments of uranium ore bodies to determine aquifer characteristics using accepted analytical methods.
  • Utilize software to model groundwater flow and aquifer interactions for both operations and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with ISR operations team to optimize practices related to the injection, production and monitoring of groundwater, ensuring optimal extraction and minimal environmental impact.
  • Evaluate and interpret ground water chemistry and geochemical parameters resulting from routine sampling of monitoring wells.
  • Provide technical analyses to support routine reporting and permitting activities with State and Federal regulators.
  • Ability to understand and navigate regulations at both State and Federal levels as it pertains to Company activities.
  • As needed, provides reports and maintains excellent records.
  • Carries out complex assignments independently with minimal day-to-day direction from supervisor.
  • Ensures the use of safety equipment and operates in a safe manner at all times.
  • Ensures operating in an environmentally sound manner at all times.
  • Interfaces with company management, contractors, vendors and government agencies in a professional manner.

Essential qualifications and responsibilities

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelors degree in geology, hydrogeology, geological engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience designing and implementing hydrogeologic field investigation activities, including drilling and well construction; aquifer tests; and remediation plans.
  • Familiarity with the use of hydrogeologic data to support groundwater model development and calibration.
  • Experience conducting and analyzing pump tests.
  • Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills.
  • Strong computer skills, database management and experience in GIS software (ArcGIS preferred).
  • Great interpersonal skills combined with a positive, team oriented attitude.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with co-workers, supervisor, management and department head staff and various agency personnel.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing conveying complex issues to a wide range of people.
Desired experience (not required)
  • Advanced degree in geology, geochemistry, hydrogeology, or engineering with an emphasis in hydrogeology.
  • Experience with groundwater flow and transport modeling.
  • Working experience with numerical groundwater modeling software such as MODFLOW, PHREEQC, Groundwater Vistas, GMS, or FEFLOW.
