Position Summary

Red River Youth Academy is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Technician Shift Supervisor to join our team. This role is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to Mental Health Technicians while ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of adolescents in our care.

The Shift Supervisor serves as a working leader, providing direct supervision to youth while maintaining a structured, therapeutic environment. This position plays a key role in staff development, crisis intervention, program operations, and ensuring compliance with all facility policies and regulatory standards.

The Shift Supervisor is expected to foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and teamwork by providing regular coaching, mentoring, and guidance to direct care staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership & Supervision
  • Provide direct supervision and support to Mental Health Technicians during assigned shifts.

  • Assign daily duties and ensure appropriate staff coverage throughout the program.

  • Assist with staff scheduling and communicate staffing needs or coverage concerns to leadership.

  • Monitor attendance, punctuality, and adherence to work schedules.

  • Monitor staff performance and provide coaching, mentoring, and support.

  • Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance support to assigned staff.

  • Participate in performance evaluations and provide input regarding employee performance, development, and disciplinary actions.

  • Document coaching conversations and communicate employee concerns to management as appropriate.

  • Participate in the orientation and training of new employees.

  • Identify ongoing training needs and communicate recommendations to leadership.

  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.

  • Enforce facility policies regarding attendance, professionalism, dress code, electronic devices, and workplace conduct.

Program Operations
  • Ensure daily schedules and programming are followed consistently.

  • Monitor the treatment milieu to maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment.

  • Ensure staff understand and follow individual treatment plans and Behavior Support Plans.

  • Provide observations and input to the interdisciplinary treatment team.

  • Assist with scheduling and staffing coordination to ensure appropriate coverage and compliance with required staffing ratios.

Safety & Crisis Management
  • Maintain the safety and security of clients, staff, and the facility.

  • Respond to behavioral crises and provide appropriate intervention.

  • Ensure all incidents are reported to nursing staff and leadership as required.

  • Ensure crisis intervention procedures and required documentation are completed accurately and timely.

  • Monitor compliance with facility policies and procedures related to safety, behavioral interventions, and documentation.

  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and professionalism.

  • Responsible for crisis management and intervention while maintaining a safe milieu for patients and staff.

Direct Care Responsibilities
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and support to adolescents receiving treatment services.

  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor to youth.

  • Conduct routine client observations and complete required documentation.

  • Support clients in daily activities, treatment programming, and skill development.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment.

Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with all facility policies and procedures.

  • Follow all applicable federal, state, local, and accreditation standards.

  • Protect the confidentiality of client information in accordance with HIPAA requirements.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Must successfully pass all required pre-employment screenings, including background checks and drug testing.

  • Must meet all applicable state and facility eligibility requirements for employment in a residential treatment setting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Social Work, or a related field preferred.

  • One year or more of experience working with psychiatric, emotionally disturbed, or at-risk youth preferred.

  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.

  • Experience in residential treatment, behavioral health, healthcare, corrections, or social services preferred.
