Job Description

The University of Oklahoma Bursar Services office seeks a customer‑service oriented individual to serve as a Student Loan Counselor. This position is part of a small team of individuals who work with current and former University of Oklahoma students who have borrowed Institutional Student Loans or the Federal Perkins loan. This position counsels students while still enrolled at OU in understanding their repayment responsibilities.

During a borrower’s repayment period, the position counsels and assists the student loan holders and cosigners on payments, along with managing collection efforts. Counselors are also responsible for evaluating loan status, establishing repayment schedules, determining special payment arrangements, and assisting with possible deferment and cancellation eligibility. A high level of verbal and interpersonal skills is essential. This position will manage a portfolio of borrowers/cosigners and answer incoming questions via phone and email, and call borrowers and cosigners as necessary.

Specific Institutional Loan programs are established for key departments and colleges across multiple OU campuses; this individual must be able to work with various campus offices and outside organizations to facilitate the processes for different types of loans. A candidate who enjoys working as a team member and who will foster a cooperative environment within the department is vital.
