Relief (Locum) Veterinarian – Oklahoma City
The pay range for this role is $115 - $135/hour. The specific rate is based on experience, skill, abilities, and education, and may vary by location.
SummaryThe primary purpose and function of the Relief Veterinarian is to provide preventative care, diagnose and treat diseases and injuries of pets.
Responsibilities- Ensure the safety of pets, clients and associates by using safe restraining techniques, following protocols and maintaining clean, sterile and organized treatment areas, exam rooms and labs.
- Obtain relevant information and history from clients and maintain proper medical records.
- Educate clients about preventative care, pet health needs, diagnoses or treatments, hospital services and related information.
- Provide professional, efficient and exceptional service including prescribing and administering preventative care for wellness needs and diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries in pets.
- Communicate diagnosis and treatment plan to veterinary medical team and client.
- Follow local, state and federal laws, including maintenance of the controlled substance inventory log.
- Understand and follow state guidelines regarding duties of veterinary assistants and licensed veterinary technicians.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience, Education and Training
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree.
- License in good standing with the applicable state veterinary board.
- License with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) required.
- Proven ability to perform all basic surgeries with standard medical instruments and equipment.
- Ability to multi-task and manage multiple tasks under distracting conditions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Surgical skills for basic surgeries.
- Problem solving, client service, intellectual ability, and compassionate commitment to pet care.
- Mathematical ability and computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Management ability to enforce policies and maintain morale.
- Initiative, integrity, cooperativeness, flexibility, independence, and resilience under stress.
- Comfort around various pets; may require working weekends/evenings and more than 40 hours per week.
- English reading/writing/speaking proficiency, reasonable memory and mathematical ability.
- Moderate noise level; ability to perform duties with ambulatory requirements; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; hand-eye coordination and vision requirements; exposure to pets and potentially hazardous substances.
