Pay: $14.25 - $14.75 per hour

Job Description

This position is responsible for supervising, training, and evaluating assigned personnel. They will determine work priorities, plan schedules, assign and review work. The supervisor will also prepare, produce, and serve food items at Wagner Dining, a centralized dining concept within Headington Hall, a residential community for student athletes and non‑athlete students.

Key responsibilities include:

• Preparing food following recipes and applying portion control standards.
• Measuring, weighing, and combining ingredients for quantity preparation of simple menu items.
• Using various kitchen utensils, appliances, and heavy/industrial equipment.
• Serving food in a courteous and respectful manner, with proper portion control and knowledge of menu items.
• Loading, carrying, and transporting hot or cold food items safely and efficiently.
• Washing, sanitizing, and storing kitchen equipment and utensils.
• Cleaning and maintaining the kitchen and dining areas according to safety standards.
• Assisting with special events across the university and campuses, including presidential luncheons, dinners, catering, and student organizational requests.
• Supporting other food services staff as needed and voluntarily.

Employees on a 5‑hour shift normally receive a free meal. Uniforms are provided at no cost but must be maintained by the employee.

Required

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED, or graduate of culinary school.
• 36 months experience in food services, including 12 months in a supervisory role.

Skills

• Proficiency with knives, peelers, slicers, mixers, and other small kitchen equipment.
• Knowledge of safe, sanitary, and effective handling of food and kitchen equipment.
• Basic math skills for inventory, portioning, and time recording.
• Ability to read and interpret routine written materials and menu instructions.
• Effective oral and written communication in English.
• Demonstrates housing and food services core values.
• Basic understanding of nutrition and portion control.

Certifications

• Serv Safe Certification (may be required upon employment).
• Sanitation Certification (may be required upon employment).

Physical Requirements

Must be 18 years or older. Must submit to a background check. Ability to lift objects up to 58 lbs and push/pull up to 100 lbs. Ability to stand and walk for long periods in varying temperatures (-8 to 80°F). Exposure to grease, chemicals, and noxious odors. Requires physical agility for fast‑paced and demanding responsibilities.

Department Preferences

• Serv Safe Certification.
• More than 36 months of restaurant kitchen supervisor or cooking experience.

Supervision

Position receives general supervision from the Restaurant Manager.
