Food Service Worker II – Union Market
University of Oklahoma – Norman Campus | Full‑time (Varying shift 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM) | Salary $11.00–$12.50 per hour (based on experience) | Benefits provided.
Job DescriptionThis position prepares food following recipes and individual portion control standards. The worker measures, weighs, and combines ingredients for simple menu items, uses kitchen utensils, appliances, and heavy/industrial equipment (ovens, knives, peelers, slicers, mixers, dish machines, stoves, etc.). Responsibilities include serving food courteously, transporting hot or cold items safely and efficiently, loading and unloading food carts, washing, sanitizing, and storing kitchen tools, cleaning counters, floors, and dishes, and following proper kitchen hygiene standards.
Assists with special events across the university and campuses (Presidential luncheons, catering, student organization requests, day‑to‑day events) and provides general support to other food services staff.
Job Requirements- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent education/experience.
- 0–12 months of restaurant or customer service experience (cooking, cash handling, or customer interaction).
- Proficiency with kitchen tools (knives, peelers, slicers, etc.) and basic food preparation equipment.
- Ability to handle food safety, sanitation, and portion control standards.
- Basic arithmetic skills for handling cash, inventory, and time sheets.
- Strong written and oral communication in English.
- Knowledge of the University’s core values and Housing and Food Services values.
- Basic nutrition and portion‑control understanding.
- Ability to use time‑attendance systems and maintain records.
- Physical ability to lift up to 58 lb, push/pull up to 100 lb, stand and walk for extended periods, and work in temperatures ranging from –8 to 80 °F.
- Serv Safe certification.
- Minimum six months of restaurant kitchen/cooking experience.
Must be 18 years or older, pass a background check, and have no felony convictions related to abuse, theft, sexual assault, or drug distribution. Work during university closings, nights, and weekends may be required.
New hires must comply with the University’s Tuberculosis Testing policy and receive the Hepatitis A vaccine or annual testing. Hiring is contingent upon a background check.
