General Purpose

The Area Supervisor is a member of Store Leadership, responsible for a specific, assigned area of the store and for general operations and supervision when acting as Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include opening/closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a friendly environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and executing operational processes.

Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
  • Safety is the number one priority and safe behaviors are practiced at all times.
  • Maintain awareness on the sales floor, correct or report unsafe conditions or practices.
  • Secure the building: entrance/exit control, EAS device checks, cash office security, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area.
  • Remove clutter and keep egress clear.
  • Ensure customer safety—prevent, report, and manage accidents.
  • Test fire alarm systems as scheduled; respond to alarms after hours.
Customer Service
  • Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
  • Show courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism; recognize associates via company programs.
Personal and Store Brand
  • Represent and support the company brand at all times.
  • Maintain a professional appearance per the dress code and ensure associates do the same.
  • Keep all store areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
  • Handle daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
  • Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards.
  • Receive merchandise trucks when needed.
  • Process all merchandise promptly and handle non‑merchandise inbound deliveries.
  • Clean and organize all stockrooms; secure and process back‑stock.
  • Merchandise departments and floor moves; sign promotions as needed.
  • Wrap and re‑wrap merchandise as required.
Loss Prevention
  • Comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a strong customer‑service presence.
  • Act with integrity and protect confidential information, cash, and merchandise.
  • Maintain the Public View Monitor system and conduct “Code 50” inspections.
  • Execute best practices to maximize productivity while minimizing touch points.
Front‑End Supervision & Operations
  • Implement best practices and minimize extra touch points at the front end.
  • Maintain pace, energy, and presence; expedite cart lines.
  • Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control, and front‑end procedures.
  • Manage associate break schedules for backups, lunch, and breaks.
  • Ensure all equipment is operational; maintain supplies and recovery.
  • Expedite go‑backs; scan, tag, and ticket as needed.
  • Teach the “Scan and Bag” best practice.
  • Ensure salability of merchandise on the front end and specialty racks.
Fitting Rooms
  • Maintain cleanliness of fitting rooms.
  • Audit and account for fitting room garment tags per policy.
  • Ensure go‑back compliance; ticket, scan, nub, and tag returned merchandise.
Administrative Duties
  • Conduct cash pulls and bank deposits per company policy.
  • Control front end when needed; follow refund, purchase, and cash handling procedures.
  • Administer payroll: punch edits, scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll, reporting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the store manager.
