There are plenty of roles outside mainstream education where qualified teachers can work with young people. But sometimes the teaching gets lost. At SEND Inclusion Support , we're looking for an experienced Specialist Outreach Teacher in Leigh who wants the freedom to use their professional judgement, adapt education properly and decide what meaningful progress looks like for the young person they're supporting.

You'll have structure, a curriculum and have specialist colleagues around you. Start With the Young Person The children and young people we support have found mainstream education difficult to access. That could be because of autism, SEMH, anxiety, Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) or other additional needs. So before deciding how you're going to teach, you'll need to understand who you're teaching .

What can they already do? What have they disengaged from? What makes them anxious? What interests them? How do they communicate? What does successful education realistically look like for them right now, and where are you trying to help them get to next? From there, you'll build learning around the individual. Use Your Professional Judgement

Your role will include:
Delivering personalised 1:1 education Assessing individual starting points Planning appropriate learning Adapting sessions around SEND and SEMH needs Using interests and strengths to develop engagement Supporting academic development alongside communication, confidence and independence Establishing routines that make education feel manageable Recording and evaluating progress Working appropriately with families and other professionals Supporting progression towards the young person's next educational pathway Sessions may take place at home, in the community or within another suitable environment , depending on the individual provision.

Y our planning time is paid . A Curriculum You Can Adapt
- Not a Script You Have to Follow You'll have access to SEND Inclusion Support's bespoke Nurture Curriculum . It's a semi-formal curriculum developed specifically for young people who may currently be unable to access mainstream education. Think of it as your framework rather than your script. It gives you somewhere to start while allowing you to adjust the pace, content and approach around the learner.

Where appropriate, learning can also feed into the National Curriculum and formal education pathways . Independent Doesn't Mean Isolated Outreach teaching naturally gives you more independence than working within a conventional school, but you still need somewhere to share ideas, discuss challenges and learn from other specialists. You'll be part of a wider team of Nurture Teachers and SEND professionals, with opportunities to share resources and experience.

There are also termly Nurture Teacher Days , bringing teachers together to reflect on practice, collaborate and develop their specialist knowledge. This Could Suit You If you're an experienced teacher who still loves teaching - but perhaps no longer loves everything that surrounds conventional classroom teaching. You enjoy working creatively. You're comfortable making professional decisions. And you don't measure every pupil against exactly the same definition of progress.

You'll ideally bring: QTS or substantial relevant teaching experience

Experience of SEND and/or SEMH Strong curriculum and teaching knowledge The ability to adapt learning significantly Excellent relationship-building skills Calmness and consistency Sound professional judgement…
