The City of North Adams seeks qualified applicants for the full-time (37.5 hours per week) position of Assistant Treasurer/Collector. Primary responsibilities include preparation of invoices, processing payments, and the collection of all taxes and other revenues due and payable to the City. Other responsibilities include reconciliation of monthly bank statements and preparation of fiscal reports. The Assistant Treasurer/Collector is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction must be eligible to be bonded.
Also, assist in funding and disbursing municipal payrolls and vendor warrants including employee with holdings, contributions, deductions, tax reporting and direct deposit. Assist Treasurer with the administration of real estate, personal property, and motor vehicle excise taxes from receipt of commitments to the final reporting of the collection of the same, and to carry through with department procedures to collect unpaid balances.
Reconciles cash book and balancing cash with Auditor.
Applicants must possess excellent communication and customer service skills. Technology skills and have relevant management experience. Preference will be given to candidates with the following credentials: a Associate’s degree in accounting or finance, and at least three years of experience in municipal government or financial management or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and pay careful attention to details despite interruptions. Ability to stay calm and deal tactfully, patiently, and appropriately with all clients.
