Job Summary

The Assistant Manager of Site Operations supports the Site Manager by directing the day‑to‑day operations of a single depot. They are responsible for establishing and maintaining performance and productivity metrics, as well as implementing cost management processes. Acting as a key point of contact on the site for various operational aspects, they will step in to lead the depot when the site manager is unavailable.

Job Functions
  • Manages the day‑to‑day operations of the depot and provides daily support to Operations Managers in ensuring quality and budget performance.
  • Leads continuous improvement projects to increase efficiency and productivity.
  • Manages all Operations Manager and Route Supervisor scheduling to ensure management coverage during all operating hours.
  • Monitors and improves all on‑site processes during the launch, on route, and check‑in procedures.
  • Monitors budget and operating metrics while diagnosing and improving processes, procedures and performance.
  • Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company OSHA, and other standards and regulations.
  • Oversees personnel needs of the depot including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation and promotion decisions.
  • Formulates both short‑term and long‑term goals and action plans in conjunction with the Site Manager and/or Director of Operations.
  • Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance and labor and material costs.
  • Works with functional groups to resolve employee relations and labor relations issues.
  • Works a changing shift schedule to oversee all facets of the operations when they are occurring. Episodic overnight and weekend shifts are necessary.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience (in addition to education requirement) in transportation, logistics, or solid waste operations in which coaching, routing assessments and leading employees is required.
  • Associate’s degree (accredited) or, in lieu of degree, high school diploma or GED (accredited) and 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience handling employee grievances and conducting investigations.
  • Prior experience in environmental services a plus.
  • Experience overseeing business plans, developing and tracking budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a data‑driven approach to decision making.
  • Leadership capabilities working across a matrix organization.
  • Experience implementing safety (OSHA) programs and equipment specifications.
  • Proven ability to work efficiently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate others to achieve results.
  • Proven experience meeting business commitments, driving change and implementing process improvements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite or related software.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
  • Proven experience in managing labor relations in a unionized environment.
  • Excellent computer skills with the ability to handle multiple programs and systems.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally via e‑mail, telephone and 2‑way devices.
  • Must have desire and ability to learn the company’s software applications (Samsara, Tower, Routeware, Power BI, SharePoint, etc.).
